A brief overview
Can you introduce yourself ?
Axelle, I 'm 39, almost 40! TV journalist for over 15 years and practicing yoga for 5 years. Originally from Dunkirk, I have lived in Paris since my adolescence. I have worked for the past 15 years in the audiovisual world. 3 years ago, I took the leap and became a yoga teacher, in parallel . Since then, I divide my time between Paris to teach and Asia to continue my yoga learning. I teach Bikram yoga at the Yoga Bikram Paris center but also yin yoga and Hatha yoga. You can find my news on my Axelle Yoga Teacher page.
Have you always wanted to become a yoga teacher?
Quite the contrary, I had tried my hand at a few yoga classes a very long time ago. But , I was literally bored . At the time, I preferred running or swimming , strength activities, which suited me completely at the time .
When and how did this passion for yoga come to you?
In 2010 , I discovered Yoga in New Zealand while covering the Rugby World Cup. I was frozen to death in the middle of the French summer .
So, I pushed the door of a hot yoga studio, Bikram yoga. It was already widespread in Auckland , the capital . _ I spent 90 minutes of nightmare and at the same time of pure happiness. because I thought the teacher was spending his time correcting me when he was just telling us in English to breathe in and breathe out . For the record, exhale, which means to expire in French, is very close to the pronunciation of my first name axelle … a misunderstanding that nevertheless put me on the track of my new life.
What does yoga represent in your daily life?
Today is like brushing my teeth, eating or taking a shower . Every morning, putting your foot on the ground is like caressing the earth.
To practice yoga every day is to feel alive, loved and free. It is a moment of love and an incredible act of humility .
What is your definition of
- well-being ? Be yourself, be true, be humble and above all smile because it is certainly the most beautiful disease.
- happiness ? I would paraphrase Gandhi then "happiness is when your actions match your words"
Tell us a bit about your life as a globetrotter.
I have first , I believe, the genes of travel . My family took me everywhere as a child and allowed me to discover that the world was an open book where we constantly turn the pages. First as a journalist , I was able to produce several reports and documentaries abroad , in Europe and Asia .
Then, becoming a yoga teacher in 2013, I was keen to go to India, to the sources of yoga, where I was lucky enough to be able to continue to train, practice and teach. Finally, this learning and positive energy pushed me to India , Australia , Thailand and more recently to Jakarta in Indonesia , to continue teaching , this time in English.
Why Bikram Yoga?
Bikram yoga was , for me, the gateway to the world of yoga . Then, encounters, travels and their inspirations slowly made their way and built me . For me, there is no good or bad yoga, but there is the one that we choose individually and that corresponds to our own body and the needs of our soul .
Recently back in Paris, I teach Bikram yoga but also yin yoga and hatha yoga, in both private and group lessons, essential tools for managing and overcoming the stress and pressure of adults. cities.
The world
What is your favorite country so far?
For the moment, I would say the Asian continent which has welcomed, pampered and inspired me so well in recent years and above all has allowed me to become the yoga teacher that I am today .
I fell in love with Bali. It is the island of angels. The air there is like magic. A lot of energies and inspirations circulate there.
Good addresses to share?
In Bali, I take you , eyes closed , to Samadi . A Balinese place , as I adore , inspiring to practice yoga and bewitching for its delicious dishes .
For you, "the place to be" is?
Usually where my yoga mat rests !!!! _ _
Indiscretions _ _
In the cinema, which actors/directors make you dream?
None really because I'm curious about everything, even if I have a weakness for films by realistic authors .
A quote that defines you?
Without hesitation , she has carried me since childhood: “ Let the dream devour your life so that life does not devour your dream ” !!! It 's so true thank you Antoine de Saint-Exupé ry .
What does a day in the life of Axelle Roucou look like?
Ahah, you really want to follow me!!
Habits taken in Asia, I am up very early to practice yoga, as in India in the tradition . Some mornings, I jump on my trusty vespa and give my first private lessons, before the sun comes up . Sharing a moment of calm, of serenity before the madness of the day , there is nothing like it . Then, it depends : I devote myself to my personal practice or let myself be tempted by a gargantuan breakfast . As I have just returned to Paris after 9 months of absence , I enjoy meeting up with my friends and making up for lost time. Yes, I am a chatterbox! Later in the day , I settle down and dedicate myself to my next dreams to realize - my projects for 2016!
